As the Pineapple Express bore down on the Monterey Bay area last Thursday, mom and I took cover indoors by visiting the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Built on the site of an old cannery that sprawls out over the ocean, the world-class aquarium has been drawing awe-struck visitors for the past 30+ years. We spent the better part of the day being mesmerized by schools of sardines, gawking at bizarre sea creatures and thinking how otherworldly our vast oceans really are.
I adore the ocean, but I've never been a huge fan of swimming in it. Now that I've had a good look at what's down there, I have all the more reason to stay in the beach chair or on the boat. Here are just a few shots of the magical creatures I managed to capture.
